For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Element's for Strings or Beth Lavender's A Better Beginning. These books introduce the fundamental position and note reading techniques in a logical progression. After the student has grasped the fundamentals, they are welcome to bring in contemporary songs. I find that a mixture of fundamentals and fun recognizable songs keeps students both progressing technically and connected to the music.
For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For fiddling, I gauge the students' strengths and develop some exercises that will enhance their sound and overall technique. Then, we choose tunes that are interesting to the student and work through them either one or a few at a time, depending on what is a comfortable work load and also a comfortable challenge.
My number 1 goal as an instructor is to assess the needs and goals of the student, and to assist the student in reaching these goals while fostering a fun environment. Nothing is more important than finding your own personal passion, and making sure that your pursuit of your goals remains an enjoyable process. I know that studying music takes years of dedication and steady practice, so I work hard to find songs and styles that suit the student. As students progress, I like to encourage implementing a practice routine so that music becomes consistent in their lives. During each lesson it is important to identify some of the common trouble spots, and to develop exercises and assign songs that tackle these specific areas of potential.
We took lessons for violin over the summer with Miss Nina. She was always very friendly and patient with us as we learned new songs and techniques. She gave the right amount of practice to help us improve and learn. Nina helped us to stay on track with growing our musical skills.
I looked forward to practicing with Nina because she was always so inviting and friendly. She corrected me when I played something wrong, but gave me ways to improve my playing. She has really helped me become a better viola player!
I loved taking lessons with Nina the last two summers. She made lessons fun and helped me become a better player. When I was struggling with a piece Nina knew how to encourage me. She always gave me the tools to use to become successful. I would highly recommend taking lessons from her.
Nina has given me many violin lessons, guiding me through the work and tasks. She always teaches with a positive encouraging attitude and helps me learn the correct positions and notes. If you enjoy playing violin and want to learn with an amazing teacher, check out Nina!

Very good and experienced music teacher. She gave my son violin lessons over the summer and she was very good with him. He always looked forward to his lesson and kept him challenged. Kind hearted and well versed in her profession.
I took lessons from Nina over the summer. I loved when I got to play with her. She plays the violin so beautifully and I hope I can play like her one day. Nina always made me feel comfortable in my lessons, and she helped me if I needed to work on something. I wanted to practice and be ready for each lesson. She really helped me learn a lot of songs over the summer! I would recommend her for lessons!
Nina makes learning the violin fun in the summer. Time flew by while I practiced and learned from Nina. I’m so happy to have Nina as my teacher!
Nina taught summer violin lessons to my 6th and 4th grade daughters recently. My 6th grader is a fast learner and has been excelling at violin, and enjoys being challenged. Nina was able to not only challenge her, but taught her new valuable techniques to refine her skills. My 4th grader is diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD, so learning the violin has been enjoyable, yet extremely challenging. Nina did an excellent job making accommodations, helping her focus during lessons, and progress at her own pace. Both my daughters are extremely sensitive, and can be hard on themselves, especially when making mistakes, but Nina ALWAYS was extremely patient, nurturing, and positively encouraged both girls to see their mistakes as stepping stones to success. They ALWAYS looked forward to their lessons with Nina, as she was so personable and made wonderful connections with them both!!!!
Nina is wonderful! She connected well with my daughter and always had a positive upbeat personality. My daughter was taking violin lessons with her and learned so much and gained a lot of confidence. I would highly recommend Nina to anyone learning the violin.
Nina was my viola teacher for 3 summers in a row. She was my favorite viola teacher so far. I loved how she was patient and took alot of time to explain different concepts until I mastered each one. I would definitly highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning a new instrument.
My 5th grade daughter Campbell had viola lessons with Nina this past summer. Campbell was always excited to go to her lesson and had nothing but good words to share about Miss. Nina. I was so impressed by her flexibility with my busy schedule, her cheery personality, and the love she shows for the music world. I would not hesitate to repeat the experience we?ve had with her.
Everyday I would walk into the room finding Nina sitting there with a smile on her face and ready to help me grow over the summer with my viola skills. Nina encouraged me to try my best and to play each song the best I could! She’s an excellent teacher!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
