I have been teaching for over 20 years.  My students have won many awards including college scholarships and the talent portion of Ms. Tennessee. I have taught all ages and all experience levels. We all start out learning basic concepts which will give us good posture and technique, then we will move forward toward the goals you want to reach. You don't have to be young to start playing! I have taught many adults including those who use the teachings for mobility and enjoyment. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola Electric Violin

For my beginning students, I typically start with either Essential Elements 2000 for strings or Sound Innovations. Both books give younger students a grasp on the fundamentals of technique. As they grow I then introduce solo repertoire by using the Suzuki Books but also like to add a fiddle book. Sometimes students gradually go either to fiddle or to classical. I try and encourage what they are more comfortable with. For adults, I try to find out what genre of music they enjoy and try to gauge their ability level with a couple playing evaluations. Instruments: Violin Banjo Fiddle

My teaching style is relaxed, but determined. I want lessons to be fun and inspirational rather than scary and demoralizing. You should look forward to your lesson each week and come away from it feeling inspired to work harder and check out some great recordings. Read More

Instruments: Violin Bass Guitar

I try to keep my students engaged by making games for them to play while practicing. I also like to keep my students set on a goal for a given period, I believe this motivates them to push themselves. I try to be understanding of every students circumstances, so I'm understanding if a student doesn't practice for a given week. While I would like all my students to practice, I first and foremost believe consistency is important so just keeping them on the right track is often satisfactory to me. Read More

Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Violin Viola Fiddle

For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For fiddling, I gauge the students' strengths and develop some exercises that will enhance their sound and overall technique. Then, we choose tunes that are interesting to the student and work through them either one or a few at a time, depending on what is a comfortable work load and also a comfortable challenge.
