If the student is interested, I can write a piece to play involving everything they learned. And advanced students I usually use: Selected Studies by H. I have found that every student requires a very different approach when teaching in a private setting. And that is true of students of all levels. It's quite difficult and unproductive to try and fit every student into the same method. Younger students, beginning and intermediate, progress often has to follow a school dictated path. I work with Rubank or any method books provided by their band instructor. There will be supplemental materials, especially for more advanced students, that are instrument specific such as etudes and technical exercises. We will continue focusing on band literature, contemporary, classical, or solo literature depending on the goals of the students and their interests. While there are some general methods, it is best to meet the student where their needs are and tailor the specific methods to those needs. Read More
