My methodology is somewhat rare, in that I don't have a standardized set of books or resources that I require. I typically focus on fundamentals of musicianship -scales, chords, etc.- as a main focus. as for repertoire, I tend to gravitate to the great American song book/ other Jazz Standards. I will, if I feel the student needs it, assign etudes from various books. I also spend time developing the students ability to recognize and react to sounds that are around. Read More

I like Faber and Faber piano adventures because they teach a lot like I do. I've been developing a power point and You Tube presentation to go along with the book for those students who need more visual stimulus. I like various curruiculum's with Trumpet and Brass players. I stay around the Trumpet players Bible using an Arban's book with some Clark exercises along with the students band book to help them not to form bad habits. Read More

They may pick a few pieces or songs while I help them build the skills they need to attain for advancement. Read More

The honor and joy of my career is watching my students learn, grow, and develop a passion for music. Because of this, I tailor every lesson to fit the individual by focusing on areas that need improvement and refining areas that are proficient. I help students track this by having students keep a lesson and practice log. In the lesson log, I record student goals, progress, assignments, and feedback from the lesson. Read More

My teaching philosophy is "exploration as a road to mastery." I help students build a repertoire they can perform. This tends to be a combination of songs they know and love, and songs that I introduce them to. I introduce the elements of music theory in relation to songs. Scales, harmony, and ear training are grasped better, and enjoyed more, once a student has context. My goal is to have each student feel safe in the learning process, while still pushing them out of their comfort zone. Read More
