For beginner students, we start off using the beginning books from "Piano Adventures" by Faber Faber, and published by Hal Leonard. They learn to read music, improvise, music theory, and play all style of music. I generally use a method book for teaching band or orchestral private students. I also use other resources depending on the needs of the student. I always ask my students what they want to achieve and base my teaching on those goals. ( Of course, I provide guidance in making some of those goals!) If a student is not enrolled in a band program, I typically start with Standards of Excellence or Measures of Success methods depending on individual needs.
