Learning needs to be fun, pure and simple. Gone are the days of the dictatorial martinet. The main purpose of music lessons is so that people can learn to enjoy playing their instrument. "Nothing succeeds like success": this is as true in music as it is anywhere else. Students have a need to express themselves musically, and it is the job of the teacher to show the student how that may be done. Read More

I have over 30 years of teaching experience. I began teaching Music right out of college, instrumental, vocal and general music classes. As a Pastor I still directed musicals and I taught drumers how to play drumset and required them to play for my ministry once they were good enough. I spent many years making my living at teaching instrumental music privately in schools around the area I was pastoring. Presently, I am teaching music classes along with piano lessons and instrumental music classes to many home school students. Read More

I played literally 100's of shows at Opryland Theme Park, Opryland Hotel and while aboard the General Jackson Riverboat. I have played with country acts such as Crystal Gale ("Don't It Make my Brown Eyes Blue") and Brenda Lee ("Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree'). While still playing semi-professionally, I decided to try my hand at teaching and have been in education since 1984 when I was first hired as band director for Gallatin Jr High School. Read More

I love watching my students develop a love of playing music. It's so much fun to learn to play and perform. I encourage hard work and preparation for recitals and concerts. I teach students how to teach themselves by use of recording themselves and to learn how to ask themselves questions and observations to make maximum progress. I personalize my lessons to the goals of the students. If a student wants to learn the "Star Wars Theme", then we work on that as well as working through their lesson books. Read More

The specific level used will be determined by the student's age. As piano students progress, I will suggest additional repertoire for solo performance and technical study. For late teen to adult students, I get to know my student's interests and musical goals to guide instruction accordingly. This helps to keep lessons engaging and fun despite age or ability level. For all students, I place an emphasis on aural training and sight-reading during instructional time. Read More
