My experience teaching started as early as being a junior in high school. I was very interested in being drum major, as well as conducting, and a situation came up where I was able to teach a high school band for a month while we were waiting for a full time position to be filled. In college, I took a minor in education specifically focusing on secondary education. I was a mentor for several first year music students, as well as a tutor for Music Theory, History (Baroque - Modern day), Ear Training and piano, as well as having private lesson students. Read More

I have always felt such a deep sense of satisfaction when a student finally nails a difficult tune or passage, or is introduced to something in music that blows their mind. Nothing is better than inspiring a student to grow and progress, and that has always been at the core of my teaching style. I always want to strike the balance between constructive criticism and praising accomplishment in our lessons, as I understand that realistically not everyone wants to play music professionally. I'm a saxophonist and composer. I received my masters in 2010 from Longy School of Music in modern American music. I had the opportunity to study with Charlie Banacos, Ayn Inserto, George Garzone, John Lockwood, and Bob Gullotti. My desire to teach was heavily inspired by these amazing teachers and musicians. I was raised in an artistic family. I was supported as a young child to always follow my dreams. I've learned it's not always easy, dreams can seem impossible. Read More

Since 2009, I worked with a distinguished Professor Mate Bekavac on specialized approaches to the standards of music pedagogy. As a result, I have developed a teaching method, which combines ‘awareness instruction method’, with basic teachings in music. This method teaches students how to think, work, study, and practice by themselves so that they can become independent musicians. Additionally, my community engagements with children with disabilities taught me compassion and patience. Read More

For beginners, I have a multitude of etudes, simple songs, and exercises to encourage sight-reading, finger comfortability, and basic cognitive understanding of music fundamentals such as scales. For guitar, I usually begin with fun simple songs such as "What do we do with the Drunken Sailor" and a simple blues. For woodwind instruments, I'll typically begin with songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, or some holiday songs during the holiday season. Read More

Having the fortune to study with many amazing teachers and being a fourth generation educator, I took a stab at teaching while in high school when I helped younger violin and saxophone players make their first steps in what I was already doing as a full-time music student. Ever since, I have aimed to teach by the values that I inherited and adopted as my own, and I am eager to continue on by utilizing a range of tools that help musicians grow and improve. Read More
