All in all, my approach of teaching is holistic with innovative pedagogical methods. I will observe and adjust the student based on their skills and goals so they may learn the instrument of choice to their greatest abilities. For all levels, I like to listen to their goals and interests when it comes to music; what do you want to achieve by learning an instrument? This way we can move forward in the most efficient and fun way possible. Read More

As a piano teacher, my approach to education aligns with the Classical Model, emphasizing the development of critical thinking and listening skills alongside fundamental reading, writing, and thinking abilities. I believe in fostering a classroom environment that encourages participation and engagement, utilizing varied historical themes and musical materials to promote analysis of primary and secondary sources. To ensure all students can succeed, I provide a range of methods and assignments, including writing assignments, office hours, and exam review outlines. Read More

I have been teaching private lessons for about 2 years, both for a company and privately. These lessons include beginner piano, voice, and violin. In my music therapy internship I have also had the experience of teaching adaptive piano, guitar, and ukulele lessons. Finally, while I am not yet board certified and cannot offer music therapy until next school year, I have over 1,000 hours of music therapy clinical experience in which I use musical activities to help clients achieve non-musical goals in the areas of cognition, emotion, physical abilities, communication, social skills and academics. I started my teaching career in 1996, teaching at the same music studio where I took lessons when I was younger. I try to carry some of the teaching techniques that were shown to me when I was taking lessons into my own style of teaching. This includes making the lesson fun as well as educational for the student. Daily practice is strongly encouraged, as well as playing with other musicians, recitals, and writing their own songs. When I meet new students, I start by figuring out where they are on their journey, and I meet them there. I approach each lesson uniquely, because we are all different and learn in different ways. I teach with a combination of Lesson and Theory books, usually Alfred's Basic, and we will focus on healthy playing technique. I understand that Lesson and Theory books are not always the most interesting, and I supplement materials by teaching chords so students can learn pop songs of their choosing as well. Read More

I am always continuing to expand my potential as a musician and as a human being. I feel that self-knowledge equates largely to the quality and meaning of music when expressed. Technical abilities are very important of course as they set the limitations of self-expression, though many seem to overlook the deeper purposes and benefits of music. I myself love my craft. From music I gain an intellectual rise through analysis, a creative outlet through improvising and composing, and a great understanding of how my body functions most effectively. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Flute
For beginner piano students I generally work out the Faber Piano Adventures and for adults I use The Older Beginner Piano Course by Bastien. For Flute students I use the Trevor Wye Beginners Book for the Flute. Clarinet I use the Rubank Method books. Once the essentials are learned I will add in various solo pieces and other method books pending on each student and their music interests. Read More
