When the student has a grasp of the basics, we start building a repertoire and working more specifically on performance skills. I have access to every jazz real book, and have many different lead sheets to tunes that aren't even included in them. I also have access to many different musical theatre books for all different voice types. For young piano students I'm a fan of John Thompson method books. I get the student through beginners and then through at least the Grade 1 book. Then I introduce beginner piano literature books to help the student see a real music book. I work on music theory and how to map out a piece of music to learn it better.
