At the beginning of lessons, I always check in with them to see how their progress was for the week and any questions or concerns that arose in their practice. I find this puts the ownership on them to reflect on their week of music making (and help them to remember that practice happens more than just in the lesson!). For young piano students I'm a fan of John Thompson method books. I get the student through beginners and then through at least the Grade 1 book. Then I introduce beginner piano literature books to help the student see a real music book. I work on music theory and how to map out a piece of music to learn it better. We start talking about musical style as well. For adults I use basically the same method but usually start with the Alfred all-in-one book. Read More

Missing home and nature, I moved back to Massachusetts and took up teaching. I began teaching students in-home, prior to purchasing my baby grand piano which I currently use in my studio today! I went back to school to obtain my Masters of Music in Music Education, and continued to perform but this time in rock bands!
