I started my teaching career in 1996, teaching at the same music studio where I took lessons when I was younger. I try to carry some of the teaching techniques that were shown to me when I was taking lessons into my own style of teaching. This includes making the lesson fun as well as educational for the student. Daily practice is strongly encouraged, as well as playing with other musicians, recitals, and writing their own songs. While studying at Berklee College of Music I was involved with various projects including recording in their amazing studios and playing with musicians and bands of different stylistic backgrounds.

I began teaching as soon as I could.  My dad held piano lessons out of our house and inspired me to teach guitar (the only instrument my dad wasn't terribly good at).  I also taught trumpet, French horn and piano throughout high school.   When I got to college, no one at Berklee really needed lessons in instruments anymore, however, I spent a lot of time tutoring kids in Music Theory, Arranging and other more technical aspects of music.

For beginners, I usually start with the Hal Leanard Guitar Method series to establish a strong foundation.  I focus on promoting good habits with technique, and an understanding of how to translate music notes from the page onto the instrument.  Once the foundation is established, for kids we start working on repertoire for recitals.  Depending on the style, this will also be accompanied by an introduction to improvisation.  For adults, I try to tailor the lessons to the musical interests of my student to keep the lessons engaging and fun at all levels.

My methods of choice for instruction are many due to the amount of instruments that I teach and the many levels of mastery within each concentration.

I think my job as a teacher is to help my students find ways to make their day better through music. Music is a language. And in any language, the right words can make anybody smile! With the overwhelming amount of music that the world has to offer; becoming fluent can become a daunting task. By helping students reach realistic goals, exposing them to music they otherwise wouldn't discover, and encouraging them to find ways to practice that they enjoy; I create an environment where students can learn to speak music like a first language.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
