I make sure that my students have not only a complete understanding of the instrument, but also of the music that they are playing. This is vital in the making of a well-rounded musician. Whether or not you are in your own band, school band, studying classical music or playing jazz, developing your musicianship and understanding of music will take you to new heights. It is important to me to give my students the tools to develop their own music, bass lines or guitar parts, improvisations, interpretations, and creative voice. Read More

I love sharing the joys of music with people. Teaching others helps me to learn about my own instruments as music is an ever-evolving, ever-learning art form. I appreciate motivated and dedicated students. I have a wealth of knowledge of all genres or music but, for the voice, I only teach classical, musical theater and jazz techniques. If you are looking to learn to sing Pop or RB, I am not the right instructor for you. Read More

For younger children, I typically start with the fundamentals such as distinguishing between the head voice and the chest voice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for said student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in both repertoire and vocal goals, and guide my instruction according to their goals. I will also put input on what I believe they could develop and use that to guide my instruction. Read More

My typical process for working with a new student is to begin with the end in mind. According to the particular needs and expectations of the student, we discuss attainable and measurable goals for a given period of time. With that in mind, I devise tailor-made lesson plans that may include materials from esteemed method books (Arban, Bordogni, Cimera, Edwards, Mantia, Marstellar, Schlossberg, etc.) and exercises of my own design. My personal pedagogy is a combination of the basic technical and theoretical aspects of the instrument and what music the student is interested in. It is paramount that students of all levels are learning their instrument through performing their favorite music. All necessary technical exercises can be adapted to a specific genre of music. My lessons are structured around an appropriate, often small, amount of music theory. We can then play some of the student's favorite music that incorporates that lesson. Read More

Understanding a style of a musical composition is always an important part of my teaching process. There are three elements of how I see a complex musician: emotional reaction to music, intelligent understanding of a musical composition, and the technical ability playing the piece. I always project a long-term and a short-term plans with my students. I believe only mutual interest and collaborate engagement would bring us to the goal. Read More
