My gift is understanding concepts and explaining them in a way people can understand (and adapting it to their learning style). I try to combine the best aspects of the instruction I received on piano and guitar, with useful and practical concepts (and styles) I had to seek out on my own. Typically I work out of the Ernie Ball How To Play Guitar books (Phases 1 and 2), while also incorporating popular songs (including songs the student wants to learn, as soon as they are compatible with his/her skill level). No matter what the ability level and age, I try to find out what music the student is interested in. I do not teach from prefabricated books but rather teach songs to students and within those songs there are lessons. I have devised my own teaching methods which have been highly successful. For younger students, teaching traditionally can be extremely tedious and they can lose interest fast. I teach songs to my students and I find lessons within the songs. Read More

Instruments: Piano Trumpet Saxophone Clarinet

For beginner students, I typically start with rote lessons that teach the basics of the instruments. Then, I move into performing basic, pedagogically-appropriate scales, and begin curriculum in the Rubank Elementary Method books. For more advanced students, I usually have them start with the intermediate or advanced method books, and we learn more advanced major and minor scales, followed by arpeggios and chords (if on piano.) Overall, my main objective is for students to have fun and make meaningful connections. Read More

Instruments: Piano Music Keyboard

I recommend students who are beginners to utilize Alfred's Basic Piano Library Course (four levels) and Five-Star Solos, as these two method books have the organized systems and clear protocols to let players progress yet can review the fundamentals at the same time. For intermediate level, I prefer Alfred's Premier Piano Course and Basic Adult Country Book. I also recommend Contemporary Piano literature Book 2, Broadway Classics from the Young Pianist's Library Volume A, and the FJH Pianist's Curriculum Recital Book. Read More

I just love to see my students develop a passion for music, especially helping to discover and develop a love of music they didn't even know they had! Each student is unique, so I work with students and their parents to develop personalized goals to help them develop as musicians. I try to be liberal in my encouragement and help my students reach for goals they didn't even know were possible. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
