My teaching experience dates back to my early college years. I had the opportunity to teach several private lessons and group classes. In addition to my experience working with different projects covering genres from Latin and Caribbean music to Jazz and teaching several courses in Music Schools and Universities, I am a holder of M.M. in Jazz Studies from prestigious Steinhardt School of New York University. As noted in my description, I am Ecuadorian and my government awarded me a full scholarship to study in New York, where I had the pleasure to study with such jazz luminaries as John Scofield, Ari Hoenig, Jean-Michel Pilc,Gil Goldstein, Stefon Harris, among others. Generally, I can only meet with students once or twice a week. Because of this, it's very important that students be able to learn and progress on their own. I believe in the importance of teaching the skills necessary for self-improvement both as a instrumentalist and musician, whether it's figuring out how best to go over trouble sections or memorization. I create checklists for students so that they can clearly show me what they've practiced each day and for how long. Read More

Currently I am adept in Singing, Music Theory, Trombone, Bass (-classical) and Electronic Music, but I also practice Flute, Piano, Guitar,Percussion (congas) and Tap Dancing. I have been told that I have a very unconventional teaching style, but I prefer to call it simplicity. Patience is a virtue that I cherish, but I am also very persistent in teaching the ultimate realization to my student. Read More

The first teaching concept I focus on is the capacity to produce great sounds with the least amount of effort. Therefore I spend some time in getting the student to play very relaxed to create a relationship with body and mind, I believe music is an extension of the body and so if the mind and body are relaxed then music will come out flawless. We will use students ideas of songs they are interested in learning as well as some of my own suggestions for repertoire. Read More

As a multi-instrumentalists, I use a cross disciplinary approach even when a student is only learning one instrument. I do make use of method books for beginners, and the specific book depends upon the instrument, but I have my own methods and materials which I utilize in my lessons. Building a repertoire is encouraged, and I use the material to assist in instructing in theory and musical communication. My students are taught to be self-sufficient, by way of practice, study, and cultivating an "ear." Read More

Immediately I'd like to know why the student is pursuing the given instrument, then sort of gauge a level of passion, drive, talent, etc. and then work from there. With guitar and piano there are several routes one could choose for performance, and each one has different teaching fundamentals. Someone who gravitates more toward Jazz will need a very strong base in musical theory, where as someone who wants to play classical might need stronger technical work. Read More
