Overview:

I'm an Argentinian/American musician who decided to pursue music as a career when I was 8 years old. I had just seen Al Green perform at the Apollo and was awed by the incredible impact and joy music can have on people. With the support of my parents, who are musicians as well, I began studying with private teachers immediately. By the time I was 11, I was performing consistently in venues in Buenos Aires. At the age of 18, I moved to the US to study at Berklee College of Music. Later, I moved to New York where I began writing music for dance performances, theatre, short films and documentaries. In addition to these artistic projects, I began teaching guitar and the writing of music which I've found has deepened my appreciation and understanding for music even further.

EXPERIENCE

I can't separate my life experience from music. I grew up hearing my parents perform, and from an early age found songwriting to be my principle form of expression. Songwriting also enables me to understand my experiences in a more intuitive way. My teaching is tied to my experience as a performer and songwriter, in that the central element of all these things is a shared experience. In performing, I experience the power the present moment has through the connection made with the audience. Through my collaborations, I'm able to connect with other artists's forms of expression. While teaching, I strive to inspire my students to appreciate how amazing music is for understanding life and for relating with others. Lastly, music has given me a way to be involved in other artistic mediums. My projects have included writing music for a play at the Province Town Tennessee Williams Theatre Festival, writing music for dance in the Rubin museum in NY, and writing music for an award winning Argentinian documentary. I've taught music for three years and incorporate my many years of studying different styles such as Argentinian Folklore, Tango, Blues, Samba, Country, RnB and Pop into my teaching.

METHODS USED

My method is centered around my students consistently learn new material while retaining what they have learned. I'm sensitive to making sure they are challenged while also giving them material that will enable them to succeed. I customize each lesson to meet the needs and interests of each student. An example of a 45 minute lesson commonly includes the first 5 minutes being dedicated to checking in on how the practice went, and answering any questions the student may about the material. Then there would be 15 minutes of review which would consist of finding which parts of the material are most challenging and finding the most effective way for the student to practice those parts and perfect the material. After that, there would be a 3 minute pause during which the student would listen to the new piece (whether it be material I introduced or material they suggested) so they can write down everything that they enjoyed and perceived about the new piece. Then there would be 15 minutes dedicated to something new, often times the new material would introduce a new element element, either harmonically or technically. The last couple of minutes would be focused on my giving a recap on what the student can practice between lessons as well as giving the student an opportunity to ask questions or give suggestions. After the lesson, I send video recaps of the material taught and the way it can be studied.

LESSON STYLE

I am deeply passionate about music as is demonstrated in my teaching. I'm an encouraging and patient teacher with the ability to assess the needs of my students easily. There are so many elements of music that I enjoy and appreciate which I convey to my students. I help them realize what it is they want to learn and what it is they appreciate about music. Most importantly, I aim to help my students to find their own individual expression in their guitar playing and/or songwriting. I do this through musical exercises that enable the student to explore how they can approach interpreting the music they're playing. This exercise revolves around focusing on dynamics (the volume with which music is played) as well as spacing (the time lapse between notes and phrases), both of which add immensely to the individual expression of each artist.

David is such a talented and skillful musician who has re-inspired my guitar playing journey! He is a patient and encouraging technical teacher. In addition, in each lesson, he brings well-rounded information about the music, the artist, and guidance for feeling the emotion of the music. I highly recommend him for any level student!

David is a very caring and attentive teacher. He puts a great deal of passion and expertise into his teaching and will help your playing and musicality, no matter what level you are at. He himself is a songwriter and composer so not only will he help you learn your favorite songs but also how to see and understand them differently. I highly suggest him!

David is exceptional, plain and simple. My son is a beginner/ intermediate guitar player and has grown tremendously under David' s guidance. I have listened in on a few of David's lessons and am astounded with his dedication and flexibility. David perceived conceptual difficulties with my son , who has a learning disability, and adapted a program that works wonderfully for him. David's knowledge and talent are very apparent. His desire for his student to learn music is contagious and has carried over to my son. My son practices all the time and wants to do well because David gives his all during the lesson. I can not say enough good things about this person. Talented, caring and enthusiastic . I encourage all who read this to give David a chance, he will bring out the best in his student. I am available to answer any and all questions.

David is a great person and teacher! In our classes he has explained how improvisation works and how to understand it, which is something I’ve always struggled with. Thanks to his methods, which are both simple and easy to follow, I now understand a lot about this aspect of music. Without a doubt he knows a lot and he shows it in his classes. David is a great teacher with a lot of talent, I strongly recommend him. He is a very versatile teacher.

David is a very dedicated teacher who is committed to the interests and desires of his students. He also brings in very interesting and complete exercises to work on the ideas and concepts that the students want to learn about. You can see the enthusiasm and passion that he has for music which is really nice. I highly recommend David’s lessons for both beginners and people who already play and want to deepen their knowledge of the guitar.
