I have been a music educator for over fourteen years. Most recently, I was Artist-in-Residence & Director of Contemporary Music at Pomfret School, and independent boarding & day school in Connecticut. I left the school in June, 2018 in order to explore new professional opportunities, and to be closer to my creative network in New York. I love working with students of all ages as they work to realize their own musical vision! Read More

I'm new to teaching on this level, but I do have some prior experience, most notably a paid tenure teaching a family friend for a summer. My student was very young and a novice, so I primarily utilized both formal methods for the understanding of fundamentals of music theory and technique, though I also helped her learn to play a few popular songs at her request. Letting students pursue their own personal interests in music in addition to teaching them the fundamentals is important to me, but with more experienced students I generally tend to focus more on improvisation and harmony as opposed to sightreading. When I teach, I tend to forget the time. I always walk an extra mile, vocal lessons especially. I want my students to learn the basic techniques on how to use their vocal chords, where to place their voices, how to memorize, how to hold the mic, how to emcee, how to phrase, express, improvise which really needs time in learning. But after that, students will be more inspired, motivated, more eager to learn and challenge themselves to be better singers or performers. Read More

I usually start by assessing my student's current level. If my student is a complete beginner, I have a tried and true method of getting them started quickly. Once the student has mastered the fundamentals, I will present additional exercises and songs to work on. For students that are already experienced players, I create a lesson plan that matches their level and their goals. Usually, I work on songs, incorporate technique and music theory exercises, and do not just learn them boringly. Read More

I will always cater to my students wants, within reason of course. If there is something my student may want to sing or play, I will always find a way to accommodate and allow my students to express themselves through their want. For voice lessons, a lot of the technique I teach comes through vocal warm ups, which is something we will do every lesson. The best part of voice lessons is that we just get to be silly and have fun! Read More
