For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More

I love teaching; it is my passion! But most of all, I get great satisfaction in sharing the love of music with my students. Seeing the accomplishments, achievements, an growth of my students is the thing that continues to inspire and drive me. I encourage my students to have fun and have a say in the music selection process, because I want them to feel like they too get to choose the music that they want to learn and play. Read More

Teaching has been a constant through my musical journey, mainly in person. I have not had the opportunity to be as consistent, because of my performance schedule. Online learning platforms have begun to open my eyes to endless opportunities. Both the challenge and the reenforced learning have been the most rewarding teaching experiences. No two students are alike, so understanding an individual's learning style and interests in music is the best approach. Read More

As you'll see, I'm fun, happy, and have a great sense of humor. I'm very passionate about bringing out your best, and we'll work hard to find that path to bring out your best qualities as a musician. We never go any faster than the student can handle, so that there's never any rush for a goal, only that there be progress we are all satisfied with. I want to know your favorite singers and songwriters. Read More

This type of jumping around is pretty routine even with students without special needs, so maintain a flexible but focused teaching style. It's a bit of a tightrope, but a walkable one. Adam, as many students are, was eager to show me his progress with scales first thing every week but as soon as the scale began to irk or ceased to interest him, we had to move off of it right away onto something that was joyful, so he stayed focused. To be honest, I didn't become serious about teaching in the arts until I went to graduate school from 2019 - 2022. There, I co-taught a class in the winter 2022 to undergraduates and realized I enjoyed teaching a variety of artists and helping them to feel more open in sharing their art and artistic practices. When I graduated, I knew that the next logical and intuitive step for me was teaching. Not only do I want to help others achieve their goals, I also feel that teaching pays homage to all of the mentors and teachers I've had throughout my life. Read More

I believe that it is imperative that the student has fun, while staying focused and learning as much through a lesson as possible. I play musical games and analogies to assist with the memorization of finger numbers, note names, and finger scales. I make sure that the student is focused and is enjoying the lesson and if not, I am able to change my method to fit my student's needs, all while maintaining professionalism and communication with the parent.
