I have played piano and cello most of my life, and been surrounded by music, earning an honors degree in Piano Performance from Vassar College, and a Piano Teacher's Diploma from the Royal College of Music in London, England. I have given several public recitals, enjoyed playing in chamber music groups, and have taught piano at all levels. I have taught quite literally all ages. 5-75. Styles and lesson books used varied depending upon student and school. I usually taught Suzuki for violin, viola and classical guitar (tend to prefer Scott Tennant Pumping Nylon book for classical guitar though). And usually Faber Piano Adventures for young piano students. Eventually going to Clementi Sonatinas and Chopin Preludes. Also Mel Bay Modern Guitar for beginning rock/jazz guitarists. I began my teaching career as a college student in 2015 and have continued to teach both in private and group settings for a total of 8 years. My primary instrument is voice, and I am passionate about guiding growing singers in finding their voice, developing healthy vocal technique, learning helpful music theory, and fostering a love of music! I do use printed method books for my students to guide them along the process (Hal Leonard, Rubank, Taffanael and Gaubert Bernstein to name a few) for the child, methods and scales will be assigned to teach proper technique and positioning. I use All for Strings, Suzuki, Klengel (scales) at the beginning level. I proceed to Concerto repertoire, Popper, Dotzauer etc. The usual classical repertoire. I will also transcribe popular pieces or pieces that the student enjoys to really increase motivation. I also test weekly to inform students of where their practice ability is at and what they need to improve on.
