Instruments: Piano

My teaching has been a very gratifying experience for me. After my career in Advertising, I returned to music and playing piano ( as well as being a Pre-School Music teacher). I have been teaching for over 15 years and you might say I am a “ Seasoned Pro “. My students are of all ages and abilities. I love when a student requests a particular piece to play or tells me of playing piano for friends and family. Read More

My method of teaching attunes to the student needs, and flexible when it comes to pieces but I always try to integrate classical music for I believe that it is basic foundation in piano playing. I approach every lesson with every student with a focus on patience, empathy, dedication to excellence for myself and my student, and a big dose of fun! For younger students and for beginners, I spend a good amount of time on laying out the basics of the instrument, the foundational techniques of playing, basic music theory, and discussions that allow the student to tell me what influences them and what they most want to achieve in music. I'm a passionate, motivated, and organized instructor who loves working with my students to share my love of music. I graduated from Northwestern University this June with my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. I maintained a studio of six saxophone, piano, and percussion students while earning my degree, so I am very experienced with private teaching! As a saxophone player, woodwinds are my specialty. I am very comfortable teaching saxophone, clarinet, and flute, in addition to non woodwind instruments like piano and percussion. Read More

My mother influenced my life as a musician. In 1969 she encouraged me to audition for the Newark Boys Chorus. I auditioned. I was accepted and sang in choir-school for three years, singing music from Renaissance to R&B. In 1980 I received a BM and MMT from Oberlin Conservatory. At Oberlin I met three great teachers who encouraged me to sing professionally. I pursued the career! Performance highlights are: The Metropolitan Opera, The Met Museum, The Wigmore Hall and The NY Philharmonic. Read More

For students, both children and adults, I like to put great emphasis on ear training and improvisation. Although I emphasize ear training and improvisation, I do not neglect sight reading and learning repertoire. I make sure to balance these two as well as make sure the student is practicing songs they enjoy as well! Read More
