Overview:
I am a very passionate and motivated instructor. Teaching drums and percussion is especially fun for me because its my main instrument. I have been teaching drums for almost ten years and my intensions are to never stop. I have played drums pretty much my whole life and have been fortunate enough to take that around the world. Playing everything from casual gigs to professional musicals and recording sessions. I have toured around the United States and Europe playing music with numerous bands. I love every new musical experience and strive myself to be prepared for any gig that might come my way, and I try my best to instill that in my students as well. I do my best to expose my students to all kids of music with new listening assignments every lesson. I also strongly encourage them to bring in songs they already know that they want to learn. We cover all the important techniques and fundamentals while still making it fun and interesting.
EXPERIENCE
For about 5 years I taught at a program called "Be Natural Music" where all of the students were children and teens. We put together kid rock bands and had them play shows a few times a year at local venues and festivals. I was the resident drum teacher for that program until my very recent move to New York. In my time there I helped the program expand into a new bigger store front and almost doubled their clientele. I also handled all of the programs drum repair and maintenance needs. Outside of that program I taught a number of students privately and at a local music store. I have taught a wide range of students from beginner to advanced and ages 5 to 50.
METHODS USED
For beginners I usually start them off with two books, Stick Control and Funky Primer. I then pair what they learn from those with real world examples and try to incorporate that into songs that they want to play. For more intermediate students we focus more on developing their musical vocabulary and all around versatility. We go more in depth on rudiments and using them around the kit. We also start covering music industry fundamentals and the skills they need to market themselves as a musician and how to put together or find a band to start gigging with! For all of my students I make sure they have a list of favorite drummers. If they don't know any I will have them listen to a new one every week. Along with drummers, I give them new albums to listen to every week. The best way to expand your musical vocabulary is listening.
LESSON STYLE
I make sure that my students go at a pace that works for them. I try to find out what kind of learner they are and then I tweak my curriculum to best accommodate them. I always do my best to make sure that my students are having fun over anything else. Incorporating songs from both my library, and ones that the student already knows, we develop ear training skills by playing along and trying to copy the pros! Setting realistic goals and celebrating every victory is very important, but so is taking breaks when frustration sets in and coming back to it with a level head and motivated attitude.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
