Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop passion and love for music. Therefore, it is important to let the students progress at their own paces with supervision and slight push. I encourage this by not only setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson and making sure we achieve that, but also by adding, from time to time, interesting notes about the history of music or composer's biography to captivate the students' imagination. I hope all my students will become well-known instrumentalists in the future, but I set realistic weekly goals for my students. I design the curriculum according to the student's level and progress, and I highly encourage daily practice even though it could be a challenge. Acknowledging the progress and accomplishments while pointing out the places to improve on will help and motivate students to learn more. I teach classical music exclusively. My strategy for utterly inexperienced students is to remove from the equation the difficulty of reading a music score, and just allow the hands to "learn" the keyboard by having the student repeating short musical sentences (either preexisting or improvised by me on the spot). Once familiarity with the keyboard has been achieved, or if the student already reads music, we move on to his or her first book, and I tend to favor Nancy and Randall Faber's Piano Adventures.
