I've been teaching over 25 years, both voice and piano. No one size fits all. I teach each individual as an individual. We start with the basics of the musical instrument. I use Method books which guides the student through musical concepts gradually. The student practices during the week so that we can move on to the next lesson. With voice I work on proper production of tone and breath support. Read More

I have an eclectic style of teaching and may use different methods for different students. I want my students to be able to understand music and be able to play long after our lessons are over. I discuss theory and harmony as we work on different pieces. I usually end lessons by improvising along with students, or doing ear training games, which both children and adults love. Read More

What works for a 5 year old child, doesn't work for an autistic child. I’m flexible in my teaching, some students prefer classical music more than others. Im willing to try a new music style; if one loves a piece one will practice it in addition to the given piece that develops his(her) finger technique, dynamics, phrasing, articulation, so children can perform a song rather than simply reproduce notes. When I meet new students, I start by figuring out where they are on their journey, and I meet them there. I approach each lesson uniquely, because we are all different and learn in different ways. I teach with a combination of Lesson and Theory books, usually Alfred's Basic, and we will focus on healthy playing technique. I understand that Lesson and Theory books are not always the most interesting, and I supplement materials by teaching chords so students can learn pop songs of their choosing as well. Read More

For beginners of any age, foundations of music theory are essential. I am familiar with multiple curricular options. From the very first lesson, however, its essential to be making music and experiencing musical moments to encourage students to keep going! As students become proficient in the basics, I will lean into their musical interests and teach what they love, helping them reach their musical goals and beyond. The goal is to keep lessons fresh, engaging, and fun. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet
I do not have a set typical method I use for all my students because everyone is different. I begin with assessing a new student to find what their goals are and their commitment level is. All of my students find their lessons to be challenging, but my goal is to also provide them with a nurturing and creative atmoshpere. My students find that they make significant improvement every week. Read More

Every student learns differently and progresses at a different rate. In order to keep my students motivated, I balance tasks that each student finds easy and enjoyable with tasks that are more challenging. My students know that if they say something is too hard, I will ask them to try it again another way, using their strategies to problem solve. Most of the time, they find that it isn't too hard after all, which boosts their confidence. Read More
