Sometimes I will make audio recordings of a student to track progress. For a student to sit and really listen to the improvemnets they have made I find to be one of my best teaching tools. I design curriculum and select repertoire based entirely on the unique position of each student. As a result, the methods I employ vary widely from student to student. In general, I help students to identify and scrutinize areas in which they hope to grow, and systematize methods for development in those areas. The first lesson always begins with asking a new student to play something for me. If a student comes to me with no experience at all, I will simply ask them to play anything for me - any combination of notes, volumes, clusters, and sounds over any period of time. Read More

I began teaching piano in 1995, in several private Music Schools, in Porto and Lisbon. Apart from the instrument, I also taught Music Theory, and Music Composition. I taught students aged 6 all the way up to sixty-seven (my oldest so far, but records are meant to be broken). My students have performed in recitals organized by the schools. I performed at venues and festivals including Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, BBC Radio Foyle, Ulster Hall, Panama Jazz Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and the San Jose Jazz Festival.
