Overview:

I am a pianist, conductor, and educator, with additional backgrounds in music theory/musicianship, voice, bassoon and percussion. I am currently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the Longy School of Music, studying with Grammy-nominated pianist and composer, Andrius Žlabys. In 2020, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Conducting from Chapman University, where I studied piano with Dr. Grace Fong and conducting with Daniel Wachs. As a solo and collaborative artist, I have performed in venues including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (New York City, NY), Musco Center for the Arts (Orange, CA), and Edward M. Pickman Concert Hall (Cambridge, MA). My musical journey began at the age of 3, when I began taking piano lessons. I have been trained in the German and Russian schools of piano playing with musical lineages tracing back to Beethoven, Heinrich Neuhaus, and Nikolai Rubinstein. My interpretations are formed through a delicate balance between elements of the two hemispheres of the brain: of analysis and emotion; logic and intuition; order and spontaneity.

EXPERIENCE

I have taught as a substitute piano teacher at Laurie Ann's Music School (Orange, CA) and the Forte Music Academy (Garden Grove, CA). I have also worked as a Music Theory Tutor at Chapman University (Orange, CA) and as a Summer Band/Percussion Instructor at Valley Christian Schools (San Jose, CA). I have recently established my own piano studio and am looking to grow my studio! My role as a teacher is to foster a curiosity and passion that will lead to a lifelong enjoyment and love of music and music-making. I aim to help students not only become compelling performers, but also well-rounded musicians, with solid foundations in technique, theory, aural skills, improvisation, music history, and collaborative skills. I strongly believe in developing the whole musician because only through the mastery and intersection of all these areas of musicianship can one achieve their full artistic potential.

METHODS USED

At all levels (beginner-advanced), I teach piano performance, technique, music theory, ear training, and sight reading. My curriculum follows the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) standards, and students are strongly encouraged to take RCM examinations as they progress through each level. Although every student's piano journey will look different based on their musical goals, preferences, etc., the RCM standards provide guidelines upon which I design a personal curriculum for each student. In addition to RCM exams, I also prepare students for recitals, competitions, and college auditions, if it aligns with the student's personal goals.

LESSON STYLE

In order to support students in discovering and sharing their unique artistic voices, I strive to provide a space in lessons where students feel safe to explore, discover, experiment, and make mistakes. The goal for all my students is to be able to perform with full conviction and belief in their interpretations through score study and analysis, technical mastery, and emotional engagement. Beyond learning about music and the technical aspects of playing the piano, the ultimate goal for my students is to learn more about themselves, about life, and to have the pure joy of experiencing life through music. From my own experience, it was from my own teachers' love and passion for music that was the most inspiring and encouraging for me in my musical journey, so that is what I aim to pass on to my own students.
