In August of 2007 I started my first term of college at Castleton University located in Castleton, VT. There I became an established pianist all around Vermont in local churches, schools, bands and as an accompanist to my fellow students at Castleton University. I graduated in 2011 celebrating the completion with my parents and fellow students. No one size fits all and each individual learns the same concept a bit differently. Most of my students will begin with a set of books from Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures or Alfred's Basic Piano Course, or a combination of both. I recommend that younger students take advantage of the Activity and Ear Training book that is a part of Alfred's Prep Course. My teaching experience dates back to my college days. When I was in college I had the opportunity to student teach students from Pre Kindergarten to 12th grade. I mainly have experience with teaching younger children general music. Even though, I have limited experience with private instruction I had the chance to help students with their auditions to NYSSMA. For younger students, I typically begin with stage presence. I mostly focus on stage presence with all of my students regardless of age but usually always with younger students. I find that younger students sometimes have such huge talent and voices but don’t quite know how to perform in a way that fully demonstrates their true ability. I believe everyone, even teachers are students forever and we are all equal in this journey. I learn just as much, if not more from my students. I find the most progress in students are when they speak out and meet me halfway in the lesson. I am more than happy to adjust my methods as a teacher because no student is the same.
