Since 1993, while studying piano at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, I worked as a concertmaster in the Kyiv State Choir Band named Revutsky, and a piano teacher at the School of Arts. From the time I began my studies at the R. Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music in 1989, and through the present time, I continues to lead musical groups which perform my compositions. I work with a variety of learning methods including Hal Leonard, John Thompson, Bastien, Alfred, Hanon, Czerny and Faber.  I select methodology and solo repertoire to best improve my students technique while at the same time keeping their interest and enthusiasm. I also encourage music compostition, arranging and improvisation to those students who express an interest and desire to learn who to write and compose music.  In addition to teaching the fundamentals of piano I try to engage with my students to learn how to make music on the piano or voice. I love music and I love teaching! I took piano lessons as a child, was in a band as a teenager, and began giving piano lessons in my 20's. I teach all styles of music, sight-reading, music theory and ear training. For those students more more interested in learning pop or jazz, I give special attention to chords and "lead sheet" playing. Nothing is more important than meeting my students where they are at. While I use the same method books, I understand that progress looks different for each student. Learning piano should not only be rewarding, it should also be fun! In each lesson, I try to maintain an environment of learning while also using a variety of games, activities, and exercises around the concept of the day. For all students, regardless of age or skill level, I like to gauge their musical interests (i.e., what music they listen to, what inspired them to pick up the guitar, etc.), and then work from there. For someone who has never picked up an instrument before, I generally work out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book 1. Once we're past that, I'll start showing them some basic songs, as well as seeing what kinds of songs they would be interested in learning. Read More
