I have been playing trombone since fifth grade, nearly 20 years of experience. I have about 15 years of experience playing the piano and I have learned the other brass instruments out of necessity for my music degree. I can teach trombone and piano at all levels and can teach trumpet, horn, and euphonium to the intermediate level. I always encourage regular practice. Through lessons, I hope to help that passion blossom and teach that student how to best express themselves through music. When I finish teaching a lesson, I often feel like I've either learned something new or have been reminded of something fundamental about music. For example, it's very good for the health of my own piano technique to be able to explain basic piano technique to someone else. I think it's this "selfish" element of teaching that most characterizes my approach to private lessons--I try to treat every lesson as an opportunity for my personal growth as well as theirs, and I try to do this by communicating a genuine passion for music.
