I received my formal training in music at the University of New Hampshire, having earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Theory and Composition and a Master of Science degree in Music Education. Most of my career in music education was spent in the classroom. I was very passionate about discovering and meeting the needs of my students, always striving to teach the whole person. I considered myself a talent scout, never missing an opportunity to encourage any glimmer of talent at the piano that I saw waiting to blossom. Read More

I love seeing my students learn and progress! That's why the student and I set goals for the student, whether it's learning a new song, practicing a certain amount of minutes a week, or auditioning for something like a musical or talent show! Setting small goals like these helps the student feel accomplished, and want to continue to work on their new found skills. I find that goal setting keeps the student interested and engaged in the long run. Read More

In the case of adult students I make an evaluation of their level and abilities with the instrument and elaborate a program regarding to their main interest with the instrument that keeps them engaged. My approach to teaching emphasizes creative expression, technical proficiency and musical exploration. I pay close attention to the goals of a given student and shape my curriculum based around their needs. If a student aspires to become a professional jazz guitarist, I teach them jazz chords, improvisational techniques and necessary reading skills. If a student aspires to write and perform their own songs, I teach them about writing guitar accompaniments, writing lyrics and crafting melodies. Read More
