Instruments: Violin Electric Violin Fiddle
I began my music education at the age of 8 in Boston, along with my siblings and mother. I chose violin, studied at the South End Music Center, and relied on my time with violin as a constant in an otherwise turbulent young life. During the early 1970's I submerged myself in the rich folk scene of Cambridge, MA, playing fiddle and backup violin and sharing the stage with numerous bands. Read More

Hello, future student! I am an electric/upright bassist from northern Maine with a degree in Music Performance from the University of Maine in Orono. I've been a part of local music scenes since the age of 17 and began pursuing a professional music career during my time in college, where I was sought after as the bassist for many ensembles both as a student, and as a professional. I continue to be very passionate about sharing my knowledge and expertise with new students, as I have been ever since slowly learning music myself as a child. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2004, I graduated from Hartford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance. In 2006, I graduated from Manhattan School of Music with a Masters degree in Piano Performance. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play both at the Zinc Bar in New York, as well as touring the East Coast as several performances as the pianist in the Artie Shaw and Cab Calloway Orchestras. I have an eclectic style of teaching and may use different methods for different students. I want my students to be able to understand music and be able to play long after our lessons are over. I discuss theory and harmony as we work on different pieces. I usually end lessons by improvising along with students, or doing ear training games, which both children and adults love. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I have been teaching for 10 years, both privately and in schools. I have taught voice, piano, acting, general music education and directed choirs. I emphasize a performance based approach to music. I believe that communication is the essence and purpose of music, and good technique cannot be divorced from performance. I find that creating an warm, open, non-judgmental environment in lessons allows my students to get in touch with the meaning of the music and allows them to add their own personality to their piece to create a truly individual interpretation and performance. Instruments: Piano
I'm not opposed in principle to using any particular series of method books, and I can understand the advantages of using, say, the Bastien Piano Basics series to introduce music fundamentals. That said, I haven't found any pre-made lesson plans or materials that work for everybody. It seems like it's best to gauge what book, repertoire, and approach is best for each student based on the first few lessons, and customize the experience from that point on. Read More
