ive began teaching three years ago to my little cousins. after a couple weeks their abilities improved significantly. my aunt,impressed at their progress, refered me to some of her friends, and i began teaching adults as well as children. when a student is learning, i like to focus on exactly what is interesting to them, and show themthe concept to the point of understanding. if the student isnt having fun,then nobody wins! i really enjoy seeing mystudents compose their own original songs and eventually gain the confidence to perform. im always looking for any students who wish to better their understanding of music regardless of ability or age. I am a fun-loving, passionate instructor who loves watching students experience the satisfaction of making progress and feeling accomplished. I have toured all over the U.S. performing with many great musicians such as Alasdair Fraser, Hanneke Cassel, Mari Black, and many others. I have taught guitar since high school. I have had a ranging experience from teaching middle schoolers, to high schoolers, to adults. With each student, I assess where they are with their knowledge of the instrument, as well as how far their passion for music goes. In high school, I simply taught the fundamentals of the guitar as I knew it, making sure that my students played guitar correctly. As I grew musically and in my teaching methods, I understood that mixing in songs that my students knew into their lessons actually boosted the desire to play, and also made my job more efficient in conveying the reasons for good fundamentals while allowing a student to enjoy playing guitar. I approach teaching by working closely with each student to figure out their goals and interests. I introduce concepts gradually, building upon the foundation we have built in past lessons. I set realistic practice goals, understanding that we all have busy schedules. I usually assign 1-3 concepts for students to work on at home, at their own pace. Watching students grow is wonderful and immensely gratifying. I always make sure remind students of their growth and accomplishments while urging them to believe in their potential to take on new challenges. Read More

As we expand our musical knowledge, we also broaden our understanding of technique, because I strongly believe that every musician, no matter the genre they ultimately play, needs a strong foundation of musical knowledge and technical proficiency on the instrument.
