I use classical European etudes and methods, contemporary sheet music, my own teaching etudes, childrens' books with CDs, fiddle books, etc. I have weekly lesson plans that cover warmups, focus points, working pieces, etudes, theory, review and performance preparation, and I keep a copy of each plan for my own review. For young children, i would start by showing them Twinkle Twinkle, once the student is able to hold the violin and bow upright without my help, and they understand the basics of violin. For children and adults, i would start with the book A Tune A Day, cause it teaches the basics of playing the violin such as simple scales and arpeggios, and will allow the student to make progress with each song they learn. I use Yaakov Geringas's "Shifting~Thirty Studies For Young Violinists " .there are a couple scale books i use with my students. I have quite a collection of fiddle tunes, klezmeh tunes, Gypsy music and more i like to mix in with the classical music.
