I've been teaching guitar for around two years now. The main thing when teaching a student is to have patience. organization is another important aspect of lessons. I stress the importance of practicing as well as having fun with what is going on. If it's not fun, it's not worth doing. I love teaching guitar to students and I love to see the progression of a student's learning experience. That in itself is very rewarding to me. Read More

I started teaching privately in 2010, beginning with in home lessons. Since then I have taught in a private studio, working with students of all ages, levels, and musical sounds. I have even taught classes at the college level, focusing on music theory and history of rock and roll. What I love about teaching music is how I get to share my passion for music and the arts with my students, show that how great it is, and guide them to reaching their own musical goals, exceed their own expectations, and grow as individuals. My goal as a teacher is to instill a passion for music and encourage each student to become their personal best. I find that it is important to get to know each student's goals so that we can work towards them as a team. I am constantly pushing my students forward, but I make sure to take the time and remind them where they came from. It is easy to get caught up in how far one still has to go to reach their dreams, but I find that if students remember how much progress they have already made, it really helps to motivate them! I have been teaching guitar since my college days where I taught students from total beginners to intermediate students who wanted to progress in a way they had felt unable to do on their own. I took a break a few years ago and worked an office job, but I am now back to doing what I love - teaching music to students who are excited about learning their favorite songs and riffs, playing with a band, or writing their own tunes! As I mentioned, I believe creativity should be encouraged. I am okay with any pace the student goes at, however I will still hold them to a high standard in terms of effort put in. I try and make each lesson fun and enjoyable, as well as a creative experience that still focuses on theory and fundamentals. I generally tend to split the lessons up into warm up techniques, repertoire, sight reading, listening/dictation, discussing music the student likes/wants to learn, and improvisation and songwriting. I encourage them to find time to practice where ever or whenever they can. If you practice then you will improve, if you are improving then you will become even more motivated to practice. So I take a more encouraging and positive approach to teaching students. I'm very patient in the lessons themselves and I focus a lot on making sure students are capable of continuing to learn when they are at home, which the online classroom really helps a lot with also. All in all, my approach of teaching is holistic with innovative pedagogical methods. I will observe and adjust the student based on their skills and goals so they may learn the instrument of choice to their greatest abilities. For all levels, I like to listen to their goals and interests when it comes to music; what do you want to achieve by learning an instrument? This way we can move forward in the most efficient and fun way possible. Read More
