Regardless of level, I always help students learn some music they are already interested in, as that is a key path to enjoying both the pure joy of music itself and the delight of learning something you didn't know you could do. I have been blessed with amazing students and I believe that anyone can learn to play an instrument even with serious medical disabilities. I have studied conducting, carillon and am an active vocal accompanist. I love keyboard skills such as sight-reading, transposition, orchestral score reading, figured bass, lead sheet and improvisation. I like to make music learning a self-engaged process. Students will keep track of their assignments, make some of the decisions about what music to play, and be expected to practice a minimum of 5 or 6 days per week. Students are sometimes reluctant to have discipline at first, but once they realize that they are making fast progress and overcoming musical challenges, they tend to have a great time.
