My experience with vocal coaching started when I was a young girl helping to teach my church's choir parts for songs we had to learn. Once I went to college I joined the Gospel Chorale at Virginia State University where I helped guide the alto section for a month long European Christmas tour. I had the pleasure of coaching and singing on tour twice while in college. I graduated and went into teaching my own lessons while also assistant teaching for choir at a middle school. Read More

My first teaching experience dates back to 2004. I started teaching at the Kathryn Brickell School for Music. on Long Island, NY. Since then, in between recording and touring, I have never stopped. Having clear set goals and a gameplan to achieve it is what I emphasize most for students at any age. This lets my students have a better gauge of where they are and where they want to go in their musical studies. Read More

With young beginner students, I start with either the Essential Elements books for wind instruments or the Faber method for piano. After basic musical skills have been developed I'll move on to more interesting solo pieces based on the interests and needs of the students. With adults, I tend to talk to them a little more specifically about what their musical goals and influences are and help them to achieve them in their playing. Read More

It's important to cultivate a student's musical knowledge by building upon their current foundation. Similar to the way children learn a language, music students of all ages should start by listening and singing/playing before learning to read and even write. Combining this natural approach with a focus on how and why to develop good technique helps students get the results they're looking for. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to my high school days, where we would volunteer to help tutor the local middle school orchestra members on music they were working on for performances. Many of my classmates would also come to me for help with practicing or if they had a music theory question. This continued in college, and before I knew I was working as a violin and piano teacher at a local music store. Read More

There are typically three books that I like to start children off with which include Piano Party, Music for Little Mozart’s, and My First Piano Adventure which are designed for children ages 4-11 years old. These books help children to understand the basics of rhythm, music theory, and activities associated with the two. I generally like to begin my teenage to adult students with the All in One Adult Course series which consists of three levels from easy to beginner intermediate and also combines a mixture of classical and modern music.
