I continued my instructing career in official capacities as Intermediate Clarinet Instructor at the Potomac Wind Academy and as Clarinet Instructor at Colerain High School. I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once each student is ready to move beyond the fundamentals, I find exercises and solos to best fit and improve their skill level for recital performances, competitions, strings class/orchestra, or other activities. My teaching experience spans over the course of the past5 years, as I began teaching when I was in college, and since then have branched out to teaching students of all ages in both my recording studio and church. I encourage students to practice on a regular basis, especially with the younger students, as it aids in the student's progress, growth and passion for playing the piano. I design my own curriculum for all of my voice students, which usually comprises of basic piano and theory skills and vocal technique.  Dependent upon the students interest level and personal goals, I determine the extent of the materials and the pace of the lessons.  Since I only teach beginner piano for children and teens, I usually stick to the basic beginner books (i.e. Hal Leonard or John Thompson) and slowly Incorporate solo repertoire.    Read More

I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them.
