Overview:
I am a passionate musician. In fact, I come from a family full of talented musicians and educators. The most influential on me is my father. He  is the head of the Instrumental department at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC. He pretty much sparked the idea of education in music for me. I have a degree in Jazz Studies from Howard University. Howard created the same vocal jazz program that was highlighted on NBC's competition the Sing-off. During my undergraduate time I was apart of those vocal ensembles and worked closely with professors and students to write, arrange and perform full length vocal compositions. Soon after graduation, I was a full-time musician giving freelance voice lessons, and also teaching jazz voice while an artist in residency at Duke Ellington. During my time at Duke, I continued to perform and record around Washington, DC. This is where I began to be recognized for my talent, and was approached by an independent label who would soon thereafter move me to Atlanta, Ga to pursue my goal of being a full-time artist. It was this time that I really learned what it takes to be apart of the music industry truly as talent. I relearned my vocal technique through Jan Smith studios. They taught what singers are really trying to learn. How to sing current music in a healthy, but stylistic way. Often times in collegiate environments the future is overlooked because the curriculum is still in the past.
EXPERIENCE
My goal with my students has always been to make them as self-sufficient as they want to be given whatever music they are working to master. I love making people their best versions of themselves. I simply fine tune what is already there. My job is to set a regime within reason of their goal, and hold them to achieving the goal. I will make the bed all the student has to do is lay in  it. I'm fully confident in my ability to do that with any talent who is ready to become their best self. I do that, because that is the standard I set for myself.
METHODS USED
My programs for each student is tailored to the individual. Depending on what they know, their age, and their ability to learn and retain new information. Based on that information I will create a program that the student (parents of student) and I will agree upon. Immediately after the agreement we will  implement said agreement. All steps taken will create the desired results. However, students have got to be committed to those regimens to see results.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is one that is motivating the student to be their best. Often competition can be healthy, but can also be counterproductive when motivating creative entities. If people feel great about themselves it is often easy to get the level of productivity out of them they need to reach the goals set ahead of them. My job as an instructor is to motivate and set place markings to achieve for ultimate success.

My 11 year old daughter loves to sing but has stage fright. She lacked self confidence and doubted her singing ability despite her beautiful voice. From the very first lesson, Carmela gave my daughter the tools necessary to perform with confidence. Carmela is a great voice coach! Carmela has given my daughter the confidence that she needed to sing in front of an audience. Currently, my daughter has performed at this year school's talent show and has a big role in her school play. Thank you Carmela for encouraging my daughter to keep practicing and motivating her to never lose the dream of aspiring to be a singer.
