I am a determined and driven teacher who loves to share my passion for music with my students. I graduated this spring from Oklahoma City University with my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. My music career has given me the opportunity to sing in many different styles including Opera, Jazz, Music Theatre, Pop, Rock, Country, and more. I cover both the physical skill of creating a musical sound and building a song from its melodic and rhythmic core. In doing this both children and adults are tutored in proper positioning of their hands and bodies to create a comfortable and relaxed posture of playing. I cover a variety of notation methods including tabulature, staff notation and chordal diagrams. For children, I focus on the comprehension of pitch and note reading. If the child has a song that he or she wants to sing, then we will pursue it if it is vocally fitting. If not, I have a variety we can choose from. We also will pursue the fundamentals of music theory in our lessons as well. The biggest accomplishment to me is helping students of all ages fall in love with music just like I did as a child. Students do not need to perform infront of others if they truly wish not to, as long as they enjoy what they are doing. It is important that a student continues to progress during their time with me, however this will be at their own pace. Music is a language! I teach music in a similar manner as we learn to speak. We learn to speak through trial and error having no wrong words and music should be taught in a similar fashion, where there are no wrong notes. We learn our speaking style, manner and/or accents by what we hear and this concept also applies to music; therefore listening is a crucial part for advancement and the pleasure of learning.
