I am an avid listener as well as player. I perform as a solo guitarist specializing in Celtic and American acoustic music. I also work as an accompanist on a variety of instrument (mandolin, dulcimer, banjo, guitar) for singer-songwriters. You can catch my band Harper Valley Hypocrites performing locally. Our material cover Dylan to Zevon as well as some great original tunes. I continue to write and arrange pieces for fretted instruments and find great joy in adapting pop and rock classics to instruments that are not normally used for such tunes. Read More

I love to walk through how notes, and scales are layered to make chords and training them on how to recognize these. These chords and notes together are then layered to make songs and pieces. Students then have a big picture on how this concept of music is honestly quite simple. Even the most complex pieces of music can be stripped down to simplicity. I want students to be able to look at a difficult piece of music for not just "complex or hard", but lots of little simple pieces that fit really well together. Read More

For my beginners, we focus heavily on creating familiarity with the horn by fostering an environment of healthy habits. Our primary concern with beginners is being comfortable enough with the horn to be i complete control of the demands asked at this level. For older beginners, I am interested in what drew them to exploring instrumental music. I find that these students are often inspired by and event, or a particular musician. Read More

I cater my methods to age, culture, and interests of students. This allows them to achieve success at their own pace. Assessing the students age, interests, needs, and culture will contribute to the creation of their lessons. I also find that knowing the students levels and vocal ranges can also be helpful in creating lessons for the students.
