I began officially teaching music in 2015 with the Salvation Army here in Memphis, Tennessee. I've taught beginner violin and piano lessons with the Salvation Army, and I have a few private violin students of my own currently. As much as I love music, I love explaining concepts and giving my students confidence in their field of music, whether that is in voice, instrument, or writing. I love to walk through how notes, and scales are layered to make chords and training them on how to recognize these. These chords and notes together are then layered to make songs and pieces. Students then have a big picture on how this concept of music is honestly quite simple. Even the most complex pieces of music can be stripped down to simplicity. I base my teaching methods on the student I am teaching. For students that are children at a beginner level, I typically begin with the essential elements of creating vocal foundation which I draw from many sources. Once we have set a good foundation, we tend to begin working on repertoire that is appropriate for the level at which they are singing, using those songs as learning opportunities. For adults, I begin by asking about the goals of the individual student and I then formulate a strategy to help the student reach their specific singing goals. Read More
