My teaching experience goes back to my high school and junior high years. In high school I tutored in both English and Spanish. In college I tutored and did language exchange's for the German, Spanish, and French languages. All of these experiences allow me to feel confident enouagh to teach students of every background. All of my lessons will begin with listening to the student to understand where they are currently in their skill level. We will then spend time learning (or reviewing) the basics and correcting any issues at the core of the study, such as breathing or posture. We will go over the basics thoroughly to make sure that there is understanding and consistency in practice. I am an avid listener as well as player. I perform as a solo guitarist specializing in Celtic and American acoustic music. I also work as an accompanist on a variety of instrument (mandolin, dulcimer, banjo, guitar) for singer-songwriters. You can catch my band Harper Valley Hypocrites performing locally. Our material cover Dylan to Zevon as well as some great original tunes. I continue to write and arrange pieces for fretted instruments and find great joy in adapting pop and rock classics to instruments that are not normally used for such tunes. Read More

I think relationships is what drives everything. If you don't build a trustworthy relationship with your student and learn about who they are and what they like then, you will not have a successful turn out. I believe in only sticking with what the student is comfortable with learning. I will push and stretch them when it is needed, but I like to start by asking "what do you want to learn?"
