Instruments: Trombone
I'm a passionate composer and performer who loves working with students to develop an individual appreciation for music, while focusing on growing as a player. I'm currently studying Music Performance with a Jazz minor at Oklahoma State University under the instruction of Paul Compton. Because I spend a lot of time composing, I have a deep knowledge of music theory that I can use to not only explain concepts to students, but give them a deeper understanding of what is actually happening. Instruments: Voice
In my teaching approach, I strive to cultivate not only technical proficiency but also a deep understanding and appreciation for music as an art form. Whether it's mastering a challenging piece, improvising over chord changes, or composing original music, I tailor my lessons to meet the unique goals and interests of each student, fostering a lifelong love for music along the way. Overall, my musical background, education, and teaching studio form the cornerstone of my dedication to fostering musical excellence and creativity in all my students, helping them unlock their full potential and achieve their musical aspirations. Instruments: Piano Cello
Each student is different, therefore each strategy varies. However, my overall goal is to have the student enjoy learning how to play their instrument as well as help grow their passion and love for music. Before I begin teaching a student I always ask what they wish to achieve with their instrument. This way, I believe, is best to plan accordingly for each individual student. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
My teaching experience began at the University of Tulsa. I taught voice to a few students who were non music majors for about a year. After graduating from the University of Tulsa, I began teaching at Brook Fine Arts Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I taught over 30 students a week in both voice and piano (ages 3 to 20) for over a year. In my work as a teacher, I have helped students prepare for school competitions, studio recitals, talent shows, solo and ensemble contest, and musical auditions. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Banjo Ukulele Mandolin Music Classical Guitar Acoustic Guitar
I am an avid listener as well as player. I perform as a solo guitarist specializing in Celtic and American acoustic music. I also work as an accompanist on a variety of instrument (mandolin, dulcimer, banjo, guitar) for singer-songwriters. You can catch my band Harper Valley Hypocrites performing locally. Our material cover Dylan to Zevon as well as some great original tunes. I continue to write and arrange pieces for fretted instruments and find great joy in adapting pop and rock classics to instruments that are not normally used for such tunes. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
My teaching experience began in high school, as I began teaching children in a group setting. I worked at a children's educational summer camp where I instructed choirs and chorus singers for Musical Theater. During my time at OCU, I taught private voice lessons to students with diverse vocal goals. I have found that the best way to teach singing is to let your students sing! While discussing technique and concepts is important, it can never replace the experience of practicing with your voice. Read More
Instruments: Drums Orchestral Percussion Latin Percussion
I like to use The Drum Set Musician, by Rod Morganstein and Rick Mattingly, as my primer and launching pad, and I strive to show students how to maximize written exercises by building new concepts upon them. This is a great idea generator. If a student comes to me with established interests, I tailor the lessons to those. If a student comes to me as a clean slate, we will explore different styles of music until we find that spark. Read More
