For beginning students whose primary goal is membership in a school performance ensemble, I will usually choose a beginning band method that give them a good foundation in fundamental playing techniques. As they gain basic skills at this level, I expand the content of lessons to include easy solo repertoire. For older and adult beginningstudents, I usually use instrumental methods more suited for older learners. In addition, I incorporate easy solo literature for public performance. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I understand that many people take voice lessons recreationally, and that not everyone trains like a college student. I do, however, encourage all my students not to sell themselves short and set high standards for themselves. I acknowledge any and all progress that is made, and encourage my students to be proud of the sound they are making. If you don’t like your voice, then you certainly won’t sing for someone else. During my time as a graduate teaching assistant for the University of Louisville, I learned the importance of effective and appropriate communication between students and instructors teaching class guitar, guitar ensembles, private instruction, and class ukulele. My guitar pedagogy background allows me to approach each student with a variety of styles and techniques that help streamline student progress and keep the passion of making music thriving. My students are encouraged to compete with and offer recitals of the music we study, whether it be standard repertoire or an original work. Read More

I graduated from California State Univeristy, Fullerton in 2012 with a Bachlor of Music in Violin Performance and graduated from Orange County School of the Arts in 2007 in Violin Performance. I had many opportunities to perform in Southern California as a musician. In Summer of 2014, I was invited to perform as a chamber musician in Germany which had been one of the greatest experiences for me as a musician. Read More

I like to use The Drum Set Musician, by Rod Morganstein and Rick Mattingly, as my primer and launching pad, and I strive to show students how to maximize written exercises by building new concepts upon them. This is a great idea generator. If a student comes to me with established interests, I tailor the lessons to those. If a student comes to me as a clean slate, we will explore different styles of music until we find that spark. Read More

My teaching experience began when I was first selected as the concertmaster of the Baldwin Wallace Symphony Orchestra four years ago! It was my responsibility to organize and run sectionals, where I instructed my peers in the art of refining, practicing, and mastering the challenging orchestral repertoire that we tackled on a regular basis. The following year, I started teaching children between ages ten and twelve. My main objectives were (and still are) the correction of form, the establishment of excellent fundamentals, and helping my pupils understand what's so great and exciting about playing music. I love sharing my hard won skills with all ages from school age to retired seniors. I am constantly searching for the best way to convey musical ideas and translate them into making players with the skills to enjoy what they are playing. We will not only learn how to play but why a piece of music works. Always with the goal of growing a player who is self sufficient with the skills to read, write and arrange for their chosen instruments. Read More
