I use a variety of different methods and I tailor my curriculum to each individual student, offering you a personalized approach that is unique to your personality and learning style. I teach repertoire from the Suzuki Violin School and Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists, I also like to incorporate other styles if the student is interested, such as fiddle and bluegrass, and even pop and Disney songs. I also use etude and scale books to help build and enhance certain techniques, such as Wolfhart Etudes, Barber Barber Scales for Young Violinist, Carl Flesch Scale System, etc., depending on the level and individual needs of the student. I also want my students to enjoy the violin and look forward to their lessons each week as much as I do. If I ever sense that the student is becoming frustrated or isn’t practicing, I consider it my responsibility to get them back on track. Whether it be through extra encouragement, learning their favorite song, making a violin exercise into a game, or just changing up the routine a little, I do whatever I can to make them excited about the violin again. I take a very detailed and analytical approach to music performance, and this is reflected in my teaching. I believe many students look at a piece of music that seems too difficult and become too overwhelmed to realize that's it's not as difficult as it may first appear. By breaking down music into its components, pitch, rhythm, dynamic, articulation, etc., and tackling each item one at a time, students who thought of music as a strange and foreign language begin to see it as something that just works and makes sense. I am an experienced music teacher with a background in rock, blues, and folk music. As a self-taught guitarist, drummer, and harmonica player, I have years of experience both teaching and performing music. After studying classical guitar, voice, and music education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, I graduated from Appalachian State university with a master's in guitar performance in August of 2022. In college have had the opportunity to work as a music instructor to a studio with over 20 students on a weekly basis. The students ranged in age from 5 to 70. This gave me a good perspective on how to directly connect with each student to ensure that we are exploring the best concept of learning for the individual.
