Overview:
I have loved music my entire life, and I am a fun, knowledgeable and dedicated teacher of both the clarinet and the piano. After graduating with a clarinet performance degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2007, I have performed in many Boston and New Hampshire-area orchestras.  I am originally from the very small town of Barryville, NY, and my orchestral career has taken me to wonderful concert halls like Boston's Symphony Hall, Clevelan'ds Blossom Music Center, and New York's Carnegie Hall.  I have even been able to tour abroad in Venezuela, Brazil and Austria.  I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful musicians and conductors along the way, and would love to pass my knowledge on to you! During my teenage years, I was privileged to study piano with former Russian concert pianist Sergei Arzoumanov, who led me through the rigors of European Classical training.  Although I chose to major in clarinet performance in college, I continued to study piano with doctoral students at the Conservatory, and love to teach it!  I have always loved pop (and many other genres!) as well, and I think I strike a good balance as a teacher, allowing my students to direct their studies toward their favorite kind of music.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching way back in 2001, my first year of college, at a music festival in Vermont.  It was a group clarinet & sax class, and it was so much fun!  I gradually realized as college went by and I began teaching more and more, that while enjoyed performing, teaching was my real passion!  I have been teaching both the clarinet and the piano full-time since 2007, and consider that my passion and my profession.  I love passing on my love of music to my students!  It is my goal to instill a lifelong love of music in my students, whether or not they choose to pursue it as a lifelong hobby.
METHODS USED
Piano - I find that no one method book is completely standalone, so i incorporate several method books...Piano Adventures, John Thompson's course, Piano Pronto, and some self-composed music for my youngest students!  Intermediate-level pianists start choosing some of their own repertoire as well. Clarinet - For students who do well with method books, I use the Rubank Elementary & Intermediate books, and A New Tune A Day books by Ned Bennett.  For students who learn in a less structured way, I love to arrange famous classical melodies as clarinet duets and solos.  Intermediate and advanced students generally progress through the standard classical repertoire, unless their interest lies in popular or jazz music instead.
LESSON STYLE
I love teaching, and I do so with both encouragement and humor. I realize that not everyone can is able or willing to practice six hours a day, so I work with each student individually to find their pace. I am happy teaching both competitive students (I have had several students participate successfully in the ABRSM exams) and students who play purely for enjoyment. My favorite piano methods are Piano Adventures and Piano Pronto, and I like to combine both of them. My favorite clarinet methods are A New Tune A Day and Rubank Elementary Method for beginners. I hope to create my own clarinet series!
