I've been playing piano for 45 years, and have taken private lessons a total of 15 years with three different teachers.  Music is my passion, and so is teaching, so it brings me a lot of joy to share this with my students.  Music has taken me down many avenues in my life, starting at a young age.  My family are all musicians, so it has been a constant in my life.  At one point I played for church, and as a teenager I played for a ballet class.  Like I mentioned before, I've done many weddings and funerals, and look for any opportunity to play piano. I first started teaching guitar in high school after i got a few lessons from someone i looked up to in high school. From then on i have loved to teach music to all ages!. I am very positive about teaching my students. I have the knowledge to teach about the theory, technique and flow of the music up through the intermediate level. I don't necessarily stay with the music until it is perfect, because as the student learns more they can always come back to it and play it better. I teach a number of vocal warmups, exercises to extend vocal range, breath support workouts, physical stretches and grounding techniques, and coaching to refine vocal quality. For percussion students, I teach hand exercises, foundational formal techniques, and traditional rhythms. I help students find repertoire they want to develop, and teach techniques for learning and performing music. For students of Balkan singing, I also teach pronunciation, vocal ornamentation, and vocal placement which varies between place. Read More

I keep lessons tailored to each student's needs and skill level.  Students come to private music tutors for many reasons and some do not include a "passion" for the art , itself. Some wish to develop an appreciation for music to which they listen, to gain a greater knowledge of music literature, or to acquire skills for a passtime they find relaxing and enlightening. As a teacher, I am a student of teaching. Having studied under a number of very different teachers, I have learned that motivation to practice comes and goes, but passion is what builds a lasting foundation for musicianship.
