In each flute lesson, I typically begin with a bow as respect for myself and the student. We typically start with tonalization warmup from Suzuki Book 1. The student listens and produces the best sound they can make after listening to me. My goal as a teacher is to help them become their own teacher and evaluate the things they can improve upon. I am a trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer/arranger in the Philadelphia and New York regions. My primary instrument for the past 16+ years is trumpet; I also regularly perform on assorted brass, electric bass, and vocals. I actually have my own teaching method mixed in with the way I learned how to play guitar. I learned by learning basic scales and chord shapes. I try to be as interseting as possible so the student does not lose interest in playing. If the student has any questions. I make sure it is taken care of right away during the lesson. To keep students engaged, I ask questions; such as how they think they could improve, how they would want to express a phrase, or how does the music make them feel.
