For beginning student, I usually start with Suzuki Violin School. This is a pretty good methods for student to begin their violin life. There are many etudes like Wohlfahrt's 60 Studies For the Violin, Mazas' 30 Etudes Speciales and so on, I will make their individual plan introduce the Etude which fit them the best to my student to make progress on performance skill efficiently. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Faber series, along with accompanying primer theory and lesson book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. In addition to this, I typically start to add scale exercises to increase strength and speed in one's fingers. I always encourage them to practice the best they really can. It is always important in order for the student to progress, they must try their best to make time to practice, for at least 30 minutes (especially for newcomers). What I believe can help motivate them is by showing examples or sharing video clips of their favorite jazz trumpet tunes or clips.
