My special methods in teaching young students include stories, easy duets, and singing familiar folk songs. For beginning oboists I typically start with the Gekeler Method for Oboe. Once a student has moved passed the basics the fun begins with Ferling Etudes, the Barret Oboe Method, and the Vade Mecum! There is a wide variety of solos, sonatas, and concertos available for study between these method books intended solely for oboists. I am a drum set artist hailing from Southern California where I began my career in music playing throughout the Ventura County and LA areas. I began playing drums in middle school as a hobby, but after playing in the marching band, concert band, and jazz band throughout High School I fell in love with drums and music and knew I wanted to pursue it as a career. After teaching a weekly hand drumming group class and gaining several private students in addition to teaching in an after school music program, I became increasingly interested in privately teaching drums. The first lesson is always a trial lesson, in it I attempt to access where the student is musically. I also use the time to find out what the student's musical goals are . We look at things like reading, theory, dexterity on the instrument. If the student plays a wind instrument we look at things like embouchure and breathing.
