Most of my students are playing the flute or piano for an extracurricular/hobby activity. Therefore, I do not want any student to view lessons as work. Above all else, lessons should be fun! I want to challenge my students but never overwhelm them. I work with students at their own pace and try to make the environment as fun and as laid-back as I can. I love playing alongside my students so they are not always playing alone because sometimes playing by yourself in front of a teacher can be stressful. Read More

I have been teaching in some capacity since college. I have directed a high-school praise team and taught guitar, piano, and recorder in a corrections institute. One of my earliest students was a former band-mate. One of the early lessons is the importance of practice. He saw for the first time my work ethic and commitment to daily practice. What I learned from the experience is the importance of demonstrating good music study habits and encouraging the students interest in music so that they can continue to grow and enjoy the guitar. I have primarily been a church musician for the past 15 years, but have also played in drum and bugle corps, orchestra and concert style bands. My main instrument is the trumpet, having played for 35 years. I give lessons on all brass instruments, although trumpet is my primary. I can teach any style. I have played guitar for about 25 years and my primary focus is classical or accoustic. The Simandl book for bassist is an amazing resource as well. Modern Reading Text by Louis Bellson is a great book for improving not only your rhythm reading ability but also sight reading.
