My style involves around having a "recital" piece that we work on at all times, as well as technical exercises and different games to increase music theory, rhythm, sight reading, ear training, etc. We set goals and work to accomplish them in a timely manner. For younger beginners, I typically start with Hal Leonard’s essential elements, every once in a while, I encourage them to find their favorite song (it can be any type of music) to study and play in the lesson. It can be the entertainment during lessons. The purpose it to make lessons more fun and keep them motivated.
