For beginning students, I would suggest that a practice log be kept in terms of how long they practice each day along with an outline of which exercises or pieces should be done for that amount of time. I suggest students take breaks, even every 5-10 minutes as it relaxes the fingers and the mind and helps minimize frustration or boredom. My teaching style focuses on each student as an individual. I do not believe in making the student look or play exactly like me in terms of technique or style. I am kind, energetic, and engaging, but I can also be strict if it is required in order to meet the student's goals. I like to make learning and lessons exciting because it keeps the student engaged and inspired.
