Ever since I was a child I had wanted to be a teacher. When I got to Central Piedmont Community College I focused on music education because I knew I wanted to teach music theory in college. After transferring to Wingate University I began studying choral music education because I was fascinated byhow the voice works and blends with other voices in a choir situation. For beginning students, I typically start with teaching the parts of the guitar and the string names. I then progress to the notes on each string and introduce some basic exercises for hand coordination. We can then progress through scales and chords and touching on some music theory. Makeing music from the very beginning is the key ! Even the simple one line practice exercizes i back up with a harmonic chordal accompaniment for a satisfying duet. They want to feel like they have something to show for the time that they were the class session. . if we have an hour session and at the end of the session they can go out and show off what they learned then they will. It be as motivated to come back....
