I thoroughly enjoy customizing each student's lesson according to their learning ability and make sure they excel and have fun. I utilize most of the time the Alfred Piano method both for school age and adults. When I feel the student is ready I supplement quite a lot with the Hanon exercises,Czerny and the Master Theory workbook(this works very well with the student who also desires to learn to play by ear as well.) For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. For beginning brass players, my favorite method for individual instruction in the "Breeze Easy" method, by John Kinyon. These books have fun and engaging entry-level pieces for students to play. Once students have gone through each book and developed certain fundamental skills, I will encourage them to move on to more advanced books such as the Arban's "Complete Method", and Robert Getchell's "2nd Book of Practical Studies". Arban's has a great combination of fundamental exercises such as scale studies and vocalizes, but also has entertaining solos and duets toward the back of the book. Read More

I graduated in 2011 from Appalachian State University with a Bachelorof Music in Voice Performacne and I continued my education at ASU and recieved my Masters of Music in Voice Performance in 2013. During both degrees, I performed mainstage roles such as Nemorino in Donizetti'sElixir of Love, the Witch in Humperdink's Hansel and Gretel, Bastienin Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne, and Gherardo in Puccini's GianniSchicchi, as well as performed solos with the Appalachian Chorale suchas Handel's Messiah and Mendelsohn's Elijah. I began teaching when I was 15 years old, which was around the year 1984,in Brooklyn NY.I studied music at Samuel J Tilden High School and taught bass at Meyer Levin J.H.S two afternoons a week after school..In 1989 I moved to Charlotte NC, attended college and began working in various bands.I had to stop teaching for a short period of time due to my busy gig schedule.It wasn't long before I discovered that there was something missing in my life,and that something was teaching music.I have taught students from the ages of 9,which is the age that I started playing, all the way up to 60 years old.I encourage my students to practice and to have fun at the same time.I want them to not be afraid to try something such as listening to their favorite music and attempting to play it by ear.That is what I did when I was taking lessons.It is good training for the ear.When I see my students develop their craft and a love for music, that is one of the greatest feelings.
