I like to set attainable, yet challenging goals for each student. Ensuring that each student progresses at his or her own pace will encourage the development of a love for music. I try to acknoweldge a student's progress in order to inspire a desire to keep learning. Each lesson includes some technical exercises, a theory component, and other components pertinent to the specific instrument. For example, piano and organ students will learn scales and arpeggios, voice students will learn various breathing techniques. Read More

Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing. In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. I will also encourage singing in my piano lessons to reaffirm the student's aural skills. The Alexander Technique is also something that my students will explore in our lessons. Read More

I think my approach to teaching piano is highly individualized. What motivates one student will not necessarily motivate another. Brief example: I currently have a student who likes to give me really "hard" high-fives after he has accomplished something. While he is adorable and he will work really hard to give me that high-five; this wouldn't work on many other students. Whatever will inspire my student to practice is what I will provide whether that is praise or stickers. Read More

I am enthusiastic about sharing all that I have learned with future students. I have given many different solo and collaborative performances all over the eastern United States. In the collaborative field, I have accompanied vocalists and instrumentalists. I have been the principal pianist in various orchestras and have performed piano in many different ensembles that championed traditional and contemporary works. I have also much experience in performing and studying jazz studies or popular music if this is where the student's interest lies. Read More

The methods I choose fora studentwill be individualized based on wherethat student is and wherethe studentwould like to go. I will select different methods for different kinds of learners. However, we will certainlybegin by looking atthe student'sinstrument and learning environment and evaluate the technique and knowledge of the student. We will also begin by discussing long term goals and setting clear short term goals in ear-training, sight-reading, performance as well as theory and composition. The keyboard is a great place to learnmusical fundamentals, especially for beginners because it is so easy to visualizeintervals and patterns. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's importat that each student progresses at his/her own pace. I encorage them by setting realistic goals and by reinforcing the improtance of individual study practice. By trying out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I mainly use Alfred and Hal Leonard books for teaching. Read More

I would like to start my beginners in the aaron piano course book. I will also introduce music theory along with helping students to develop a ear for music, so that they can mix the two together to create their own style of playing. The more advance students will be introduced to John thompsons Mordern Course for the piano and the adult all-in-one course book. I would encourage my students to practice everyday. Read More
