I love seeing students progress and grow a passion for music. I think that it is extremely important that a student have a working trust with their music teacher. Opening up and allowing oneself to be real and show another person your raw self is difficult for both adults and children alike. I try to develop a working relationship with all of my students so that when they walk through the door for their lesson, they know that they are safe to make mistakes without judgement. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school years where i would actually walk to a students home to teach. I have been teaching for over 50 years. Students leave with a sense of excitement and accomplishment and look foward to the next weeks lesson. Making music with new students is always exciting and very rewarding to see a new student actually accomplishing something that will benefit their lives in future years to come. Read More

For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. Particularly for college-bound musicians who wish to major in music, the majority of their lessons will be based on preparing solo literature for All District or college auditions. Read More

I first find out a little bit about my students musical likes and taste, or, with younger students, find somethingfun that interests them, just to find some common ground.
