I was brought up learning the Suzuki Method of Piano. This method has its benefits, but I also utilize other methods such as Faber's Piano Adventures or Clark's The Music Tree. Developing a good ear is essential when trying to express yourself musically. Piano technique is also essential when trying to execute what you want at the right moment. With an emphasis on technique and listening, I motivate my students to also read the music and to interpret the only source that is made available to them. Read More

I use a variety of methods, custom-fit for each student individually. I teach Classical and church piano, along with sightreading, ear training, performance techniques, music theory, and other techniques specially designed to give my students the most well-rounded learning experience possible. I tend to prefer Piano Adventures for younger students and teens, and incorporate use of the corresponding app whenever possible. I also focus on helping students learn to play by ear, since I believe this is the quickest way to feel a mastery over the instrument! Read More

For beginner students who are adults, I tend to begin with Alfreds Basic Adult All in One Course. It is a wonderful book that teaches beginning theory and piano concepts at the perfect pace for adult students. As we progress through the book together, I begin to give pieces such as Clementis Sonatina in C (first movement). We start at a slower tempo and work each hand individually until the student is comfortable to try both hands. Read More

I thoroughly enjoy customizing each student's lesson according to their learning ability and make sure they excel and have fun. I utilize most of the time the Alfred Piano method both for school age and adults. When I feel the student is ready I supplement quite a lot with the Hanon exercises,Czerny and the Master Theory workbook(this works very well with the student who also desires to learn to play by ear as well.) For repertoire I emphasize classical pieces and also help the student with pop and holiday pieces;i.e- Schumann's Album for the Young, Beginning Bach minuets,Bach and Clementi sonatinas,etc. Read More

I have three different sets of books for new students that are children; so if you have more than one starting lessons, you can hear different songs. I typically use Piano Adventures, Bastien, or Alfred, although Piano Adventures is my favorite. I suggest the lesson book, theory book and technique books be usedsimultaneously to give the student the most well-rounded lesson. For adults or even teenagers, I like to learn about what interests them musically and work towards that style or song. Read More
